2 B R 0 2 B
by Kurt Vonnegut
2BR02B is a science fiction short story by Kurt Vonnegut, first published in the journal Worlds of Science Fiction If in January 1962. The name is pronounced "2 B R naughty 2 B" and refers to a phone number that calls someone to plan a suicide that helps with the Federal Bureau of Termination. The environment is a society in which aging is improved, individuals have an indefinite life expectancy, and population control is used to limit the population of the United States to forty million. This is sustained by a combination of infanticide and suicide with the help of the government – in short, in order for someone to be born, someone must first be willing to die. As a result, childbirth is few and far away, and deaths occur primarily by chance. (source: Wikipedia)
