A Room With A View
by E. M. Forster
This Edwardian social comedy explores the love and strangeness between an eccentric cast of characters assembled in Italian retirement and in a corner of Surrey, England. Lucy Honeychurch, a charming young English woman, faints in the arms of an English woman when she witnesses a murder in Florence square. Completely incompatible and impressed by this man of George Emerson, whose father could simply be a socialist, Lucy soon fights against the snobbery of her class and her own contradictory desires. When he returns to England, he courtesies a more acceptable suitor, albeit a suffocating one, and soon realizes that he must make an impressive decision that will determine the course of his future: he is forced to choose between tradition and passion.
