A True Woman
by Emma Orczy
Luke de Mountford, the heir to his uncle Lord Radcliffe, wants Louise Harris' hand in the marriage. Just as things are going well, another nephew, Philip, shows up claiming his uncle's wealth, and Luke is forced to explain to Louise that their financial future cannot be guaranteed as much as he had hoped. When Philip is found stabbed in the cockpit, the suspicion naturally falls on Luke, who has absolutely no reason for the murder. The head of the Criminal Investigation Department, who turns out to be Louise's uncle, discloses his evidence before further hearing, and allows it to be kept in Colonel Harris' office while the prosecution witness details the points of evidence he will give at the trial. It also shows that if the punishment imposed on demand is against him, he intends to give Luke time to escape. (source: Wikipedia)
