An Old-Fashioned Girl

by Louisa May Alcott

It all starts with Tom Shaw fighting his sister Fan and the fan going to the station to pick up his friend. The fan does not want to leave, because his curls will deteriorate in the rain. Eventually, Tom agrees to leave and rushes to the station. There he expects to meet a fashionable, light young lady, but instead is greeted by a young girl with a bright face and simple clothes. Her name is Polly. This first book is about how Polly has to deal with the annoying Tom, who is sometimes nice and sometimes rude, with her own simple country clothes that her fan friends make fun of, and the glamour that gets in her way.
