At The Mountains Of Madness
by H. P. Lovecraft
H. P. Lovecraft, long known as a master of nightmarish visions, established in 1931 the originality and dignity of his own innovative fiction with the essence of his supernatural horror work "In the Mountains of Madness". The deliberately told and increasingly eerie memory of the Antarctic expedition's surprising discoveries – and their clash with an indescribable threat over the ruins of a lost civilization – is a milestone in terrifying literature. "In the Mountains of Madness" is a very good introduction to Lovecraft's mythology about the Old and the splendors and horrors that preceded humanity and still remain in places. This is a beautiful short story in itself and is useful for understanding the events and entities in his other works.
