Beowulf

Beowulf, the first true masterpiece of English literature, depicts the exciting adventures of the Scandinavian warrior of the sixth century. A real pleasure to read, the work influenced many important writers, including J.R.R. Tolkien is the author of The Lord of the Rings. Beowulf, partly history and partly mythology, begins in the palace of the king of Denmark, where a demon named Grendel devoured people in a dream. The mighty warrior Beowulf kills the monster, but the joy turns to horror when Grendel's mother attacks the hall to avenge her child. Killing a powerful monster, Beowulf becomes the king who reigns peacefully for fifty years. But the day comes when he must face an enemy more powerful than anyone he encounters: an ancient dragon guarding a horde of treasures. Once again, Beowulf must muster strength and courage to defeat the monster, but this time victory comes at a terrible price.
