Casanova: Part 10 - Under The Leads
by Giacomo Casanova
This earthquake was the result of those who destroyed Lisbon at the same time. The bullets used to imprison state prisoners are actually the attics of the ducal palace and get their name from the large lead plates on which the roof is covered. They can only be reached through the gates of the palace, the prison building, or the bridge called the Bridge of Sighs that I mentioned. The prisons are under the roof on both sides of the palace; three in the west (the mineral is among the numbers) and four in the east. To the west, the roof overlooks the courtyard of the palace, while to the east it directly overlooks the canal called the Rio di Palazzo.
