There were two things in the conversation: I wanted to scare him and make him jealous of me. I was sure that a man with a passion for jealousy would be quite confused, and I hoped that his game would suffer accordingly and that even if I had won fifty louy bets, I should have been so upset that I would lose a hundred lui to his highest game.
