Casanova: Part 30 - Old Age And Death
by Giacomo Casanova
It is not known what happened to the last volumes of Casanova's manuscripts; Did the author die before the work was completed, destroyed by himself or his literary artists, or fell into bad hands? However, we do know that Casanova finally managed to get his pardon from the Republican authorities and was able to return to Venice, where he exercised the honorary position of secret agent of the state inquisitors - he became a spy in simple language. He eventually left Venice, eventually settling in Paris, where he became librarian at the Count Wallenstein Castle in Dux, near Teplitz, where he spent the remaining fourteen years of his life. This last chapter in Casanova's memoirs contains an outline of Casanova's career from 1774, when his own manuscripts abruptly ended, until his death in 1798.
