Chronicle Of The Cid
by Various
The heroic story of King Arthur or Roland about the Spaniards is no less legendary, but no less interesting. Robert Southey's Chronicle is a translation entirely from Spanish, but not from a single book. Its basis is part of the Cronica General de Espana, the oldest of Spain's prose chronicles, and it tells exactly about the adventures of Sid. This ancient Chronicle was compiled in the full science of his time and in the reign of Alfonso the Wise, which is studied in the troubadour. Alfonso reigned from 1252 to 1284, and the Chronicle was written by the king himself or under his direct supervision.
