There, she meets Frank Gresham, the heir to a well-mortgaged estate, and falls in love with her; however, Frank must find a wealthy wife who jeopardizes Mary's happiness until fate extends a binding hand. Where fiery passion fails, the understated English virtues of patience, perseverance and good humor may still hold true in this most appealing of Trollope's comedies.
