Erling the Bold

by R. M. Ballantyne

This is the story of a sea traveler or Vikings. In the author's own words: The current story is mainly based on the information conveyed in the most interesting work by Snorro Sturleson, Gameskringla or The Chronicles of the Kings of Norway. Translated from Icelandic. Sensing the Danes' intention to attack him, Erling's heart was delighted, because he was sure that he now had them to some degree. If they had taken their ships at their first appearance, they could have easily escaped, or some of the smaller ships might have been pulled into the river and attacked their ship, in which case they would have had to meet them on unequal terms; but now that they were about to attack him on land, he knew that he could keep them in the game for as long as he wanted, and if they were to see the reinforcements and do it again for their ships, he could effectively follow them and slow down their landing.
