Faust

by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Based on a tale about a man who trades his soul for superhuman powers and knowledge, it has become the work of life of Goethe, Germany's greatest poet. Starting with the intriguing bet between God and Satan, it tells the life of a deeply flawed man, his struggle against the nihilism of his demonic friend Mephistophelles. The first chapter presents Faust's pact with Satan and the terrible tragedy of his love affair with young Gretchen. The second part shows Faust's experience in the world of public relations, including her meeting with Elena Troyskaya, an emblem of classical beauty and culture. All this is a symbolic and panoramic interpretation of the human condition and modern European history and civilization.
