Five Run Away Together

Julian, Dick and Anne arrive at Kirrin Cottage to stay with Georgina for the holidays. They plan to spend time exploring Kirrin Island, but their happiness deteriorates when Aunt Fanny falls ill and is forced to leave with Uncle Quentin to be treated in a remote hospital. She is cared for by Aunt Fanny's temporary cook, Mrs. Stick, and is accompanied by her husband and their monstrous son, Edgar. The sticks and the four kids hate each other. Mrs. Stick repeatedly tries to poison George Timmy's dog and asks George to hatch a secret plan to escape to Kirrin Island. When Julian catches her leaving, he decides to let the other kids go with him. The children find evidence that other people have visited the island and suspected smugglers. The discovery of the young girl's toys and clothes suggests that something sinister has happened.
