Flying Colours
by C. S. Forester
Captain Horatio Hornblauer, who was forced to surrender his ship "Sutherland" after a long and bloody battle, is now in no hurry as a prisoner in a French castle. Within days, he and Bush, the first lieutenant crippled in the final war, should be taken to Paris to be tried on trumped-up charges of violating the laws of war and possibly executed as part of Napoleon's attempt to build a military empire. Even if Hornblower escapes this fate and somehow finds a way back to England, he will face a court battle for the surrender of a British ship. With fears for his life and reputation, rivaling in his mind with worries about his pregnant wife and possibly his widowed lover, the unbridled captain is impatiently waiting for his chance to take his next step.
