Framley Parsonage
by Anthony Trollope
The fourth edition of the Barsetshire Diaries, Framley Parsonage, was published to great acclaim and has always been one of Trollope's most popular novels. In it, the values of Victorian clergyman Mark Robarts are tested. Through a combination of naivety and social ambitions, Robarts is put in danger and brought to the brink of destruction. Trollope tells his story with great compassion and compensates for the drama with his usual humor. Like all Barsetshire novels, it is an extremely fascinating picture of everyday life in nineteenth-century England.
