Heu-Heu

by H. Rider Haggard

Allan Quatermaine encounters the legend of Heu-Heu, a monster that eats people, while hiding from a storm in the Drakensberg Mountains. The legend seems to be a fact, because Quatermaine needs to find out after arriving in Zululand summoning Zikali, an obscure Sangoma tyrant. Together with his trusted friend Hans Quatermaine, Zikali continues his mission. This task is to first obtain the strong grass that Zikali needs, which comes from a tree in the Heu-Heu Garden. The second is the overthrow by order of Heu-Heu, a nobleman from the Wallu tribe who worshipped Heu-Heu, who went to Zikali to ask for help.
