Just David
by Eleanor H. Porter
If you have a soft spot for Eleanor H. Porter's favorite novel, Pollyanna, you should definitely add Just David to your reading list. Written just a few years after Porter wrote his most famous work, this emotionally resonant and inspiring story changes many of the same themes, albeit from a radically different perspective. David is a young boy who lives an extremely safe life in the mountains, only to accompany him with his father and his favorite violin. When his father is ashamed of a serious illness, David is forced out of his idyllic presence and forced to fight the reality of the outside world. Will this innocent survive this difficult time without touching his virtue and his life?
