Kidnapped
by Robert Louis Stevenson
Set in Scotland after the Jacobite uprising, young David Balfour leaves home and travels to the sinister House of Shaw. There, he finds himself kidnapped on a ship bound for America, falling victim to a plan to deceive his uncle's legacy. Jacobite teams up with the loyal and spied Alan Breck and takes over the ship's crew in a brave battle, but they soon suffer a shipwreck. Later, they are suspected of killing the Jacobins' notorious enemy, the Red Fox. They flee through the highlands and embark on a perilous journey back to David's home, where he eventually claims his inheritance. He was kidnapped, becoming the inspiration for John Buchanan's Thirty-Nine Steps and a generation of subsequent thrillers. A sequel, Catriona (David Balfour), is also available.
