Little Dorrit
by Charles Dickens
As with many of Dickens's novels, the extent of social injustice lies at the heart of Little Dorrit. His father was imprisoned for debts, and Dickens highlights the fate of many who were unable to repay their debts when denied the opportunity to look for work. Amy Dorrit is the youngest daughter of a man imprisoned for debts and works as a tailor for Mrs. Clenham as Arthur Clennam's paths cross. Will Amy's sweet nature win Arthur's heart? And will they be able to escape the shadow of the debtors' prison?
