Mainly on the Air
by Max Beerbohm
The radio talks were picked up by the famous British essayist and humorist Max Beerbom. Beerbom returned to England from his home in Rapallo, Italy, around 1935, and his wife, Florence Cahn, was filmed in the London scene in a revival of Peer Gynt. Meanwhile, he continued to write articles when the BBC invited him to broadcast regular radio broadcasts. He talked about cars, cars and music halls, among other topics. He and his wife remained in Britain during the Second World War, when Beerbom gave his last speech "on air" in 1945. The success of these publications made Beerbohm a famous retiree of English humor. Six of these radio speeches were collected along with six other articles and published in 1946 as "Mostly in the Air."
