Maxims and Reflections
by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Geote's fourteen hundred maxims and reflections reveal some of his deepest thoughts on art, ethics, literature, and natural history, and his immediate reactions to books, chance encounters, or administrative work. Despite the variability in quality, the vast majority have freshness and immediacy, which vividly evokes Goethe's man. They are an excellent introduction to one of the greatest European writers.
