Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
by Arthur Conan Doyle
The memories are overshadowed by the event in which they are closed, the meeting of the great detective and Moriarty, the Captain of Crime. Apparently their struggle to the death was to devastate many readers with the loss of Holmes, but he also had to make way for his immortality as a literary figure. No matter how illogical the detective story may be, "The Last Question" turned out to be an unforgettable fairy tale. Stories before him included two stories from Holmes himself, a rebellion at sea and a treasure hunt in the country house of Sussex, and a meeting with his brilliant brother Mycroft, whom Holmes said: "If a detective's art began and ended with reasoning from any chair, my brother would be the greatest criminal agent who has ever lived."
