After being seduced in his adoptive family's home, he lives at the expense of his mind and beauty, like one, "five times a wife" and a thief, and is eventually transported to Virginia for his crimes. Rich and regretful, Moll reflects on a world of both good and evil, just as the reader both hates and admires. Probably the first British novel, Moll Flanders is also a novel, its protagonist in an endless quest for a lost family paradise.
