It tells the story of Mr. Britling, a famous writer, his family and friends in Essex in the fictional village of Matching's Easy at the start of World War I. The book is divided into three sections: Matching's Easy At Ease, where an American visitor arrives at Mr. Dierek's Britling home in the summer of 1914; Matching's "Easy at War", set in the first months of the war; The book was one of the most popular novels in the United Kingdom during the war and vividly evokes the battle experience from the Home Front.
