Night and Day
by Virginia Woolf
Wolfe depicts the passion for self-discovery through relationships with other people, and also looks at the intricacies of love – are we aware of love? Katherine Hilbury is beautiful and privileged, but uncertain about her future. Strangely, the sham poet must choose between his engagement to William and his dangerous attraction to lower-class Ralph. As she struggles to make up her mind, she rapes the unexpected and intriguing conclusions of two other women — women's rights activist Mary Datchet and mother Katherine, who try to piece together documents, events, and memories of her father's life into a biography. Virginia Woolf's light, delicate second novel is both a love story and a social comedy, but it also subtly undermines these traditions by questioning the role of women and the nature of the experience. A great book that you will remember long after reading. Creating your own discovery is part of its charm.
