Old Rambling House

The Old Rambling House is a short story by science fiction writer Frank Herbert, first appearing in Galaxy magazine in 1958 and later in Herbert's 1985 collection of short stories, Frank Herbert's Worlds. It is notable for its atmosphere and dystopian multiverse, in which there is no hope for freedom, which is atypical for Herbert's works.
