Otto of the Silver Hand

Born into a family that already has a blood feud with another noble household, Otto begins to live as a monk, but at the age of 12 he returns as his warrior but loving father. A kind-natured boy is kidnapped by a rival family and mutilated. Pauline, the daughter of his captors, helps him escape. His father allows him to return to the monks, who put him under the emperor's protection. His silver hand replaces the hand that Otto lost while in captivity, but trauma doesn't stop him from growing up wisely and marrying Pauline.
