Queen of the Dawn
by H. Rider Haggard
The last book published during Haggard's lifetime is an independent ancient Egyptian fantasy. It opens with almost frantic speed, the pharaoh is abandoned and killed, his wife and child go into hiding, and the goddesses move. A secret religious order raises the pharaoh's daughter and meets and falls in love with the disguised son of a usurper. The culmination is the traditional adventure-fantasy thrill (war and torture).
