Tarrano the Conqueror
by Ray Cummings
The story of A.D. 2430 is a time slightly ahead of our modern age, a little farther away from Columbus' discovery of the Americas. My wish was to give you the impression that you were suddenly diving ahead at the time – the feeling that Columbus might be reading the novel of our modern lives. To that end, I designed myself as the writer of that future time and addressed my modern people. You must imagine reading a modern translation of my original text - a translation so free that in 2430 thousands of small languages that could not have their analogues seeped into.
