The Blanket of the Dark
by John Buchan
Buchan deftly weaves the story of Peter, the young writer from Pentecost, who claims the throne, and the story of the intrigues against King Henry VIII "under the blanket of darkness, where all men are the same and nameless." Buchan's description of a ruthless king is convincing. Henry's knowledge of his reign and his love for the oxfordshire countryside is evident.
