The Broken Road
by A. E. W. Mason
The Broken Road is one of the author's two books set in British India. This is a fascinating adventure story featuring the Indian Army, Rajs and secret agents. It was the Road that caused the problem. This is usually expensive. He and the ruling prince whom his uncle had secretly announced had sold his country to the British, and a semi-divine priest from outside Afghanistan, sat on a stone slab by the river and preached a jihad. But most of all, it was the road-Linforth. He curled up the gorges, the slopes of the shale; built with wooden galleries on the steep sides of the rocks; He treacherously moved further and further down from the rich valley of Chiltistan towards the Hindu Kush, until the inhabitants of that valley could no longer tolerate it. Then suddenly, from Peshavura, the wires began to flash with his silent and ominous messages.
