The Captive
by Marcel Proust
In "The Captive", the narrator Prousta tells the story of his mother's life with his beloved Albertina in his Paris apartment, and then falls in love with her. The Prisoner (also translated as The Prisoner) is the first volume of the chapter In Search of Lost Time, known as Albertine's novel. The name Albertina first appears in Proust's notebooks. The material in Volumes 5 and 6 was developed during the break between the publication of volumes 1 and 2 and is the separation of the original three-volume series originally planned by Prust. This is the first of Proust's posthumously published books.
