The Case Of Wagner
by Friedrich Nietzsche
The Case Against Wagner was one of Nietzsche's last books and his most witty. In Wagner's music, in his teachings, in his entire conception of art, Nietzsche saw the confirmation, encouragement, even encouragement of this decadence and degeneration now going on in Europe; and therefore, for the rest of her life we find Wagner, although she still loves her husband and friend, on the eve of her spiritual death, urging us to give up Wagner as a musician and artist.
