The City Heiress
by Aphra Behn
An eyecomedy that arouses resentment for its depravity during the first performance. While following the general rules of restoration comedy, it also retains Ben's own deeply royalist political outlook. The play is about the "provocative knight" Sir Timothy Leake-all and his nephew Tom Wilding, both of whom compete in favor of Charlo, the eponymous heir of the city (London).
