"The Dead Secret" begins with Mrs. Traverton's deathbed confession and plunges her family by storm. Maid Sarah Leeson hides the letter wishing Mrs. Treverton's death, and so the disaster is postponed but does not return. His daughter Rosamond, who is married to a blind man, gives birth prematurely and is doomed to the worst blow of a dying confession, detailing the buried secrets of a deceased woman and her relationship with her illegitimate daughter.
