The Discovery of the Future

by H. G. Wells

"Discovery of the Future" - a philosophical course by G. G. Wells advocating the recognizability of the future. It was first handed over to the Royal Institution on 24 January 1902. Before it appears in book form. Wells begins by distinguishing between "two different types of minds"; one that mainly judges and makes sense of what happened in the past, and the other that mainly judges and cares about what will happen in the future. Referring to the adjectives "legal or submissive", "passive", "and "eastern", and the second adjectives "legislative, creative, organizer or resourceful" and "active", he calls the former "a more modern and much less rich type of mind".
