The Disintegration Machine

by Arthur Conan Doyle

The Decaying Machine is a short story about Professor Challenger written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Professor Challenger argues with people who persistently call him when his young friend Malone, a reporter for the Gazette newspaper, asks Challenger to accompany him to review the discovery of Theodore Nemor, who claims to have invented a machine that can break in and decode objects. Skeptical of the invention, Challenger accepts Malone's offer and escorts him to Nemor's house.
