The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar
by Edgar Allan Poe
"Facts in the Case of M. Waldemar" tells the story of a fascinate who puts a person in a hypnotic state suspended at the time of death in order to see if he can communicate with him after death. Although it was a story about suspense and horror, it was a bit of a hoax at the time it was published, because it was published without claiming to be fictional, and many have accepted it as fact. He did this for a while before admitting that it was pure fiction.
