The Giant of the North
by R. M. Ballantyne
This is a story of the giant Eskimos Scrikinbrot, also called Chingatock. Travel with our young heroes to the frozen tundra and icy waters of the Arctic regions to meet the Eskimo peoples and find out what their lives and "cabins" were like when they came to the Arctic. Captain Wayne, his son Benjamin, and his two nephews, Leo and Alf, go in search of the North Pole. When the "Polar Bear" ships are trapped in the ice, a group of sailors face icy adventures and eventually "explore" the North Pole. (This was written before the Pole was discovered.) There, they find an old man whose ancestor was John McIntosh, one of Captain Henry Hudson's sailors, who traveled to the North Pole, married, and had children.
