The Heart of Princess Osra
by Anthony Hope
The Heart of Princess Osra is part of Anthony Hope's trilogy of novels, set in the fictional land of Ruritania and leading to the Ruritanian novel genre. This collection of related stories is a premise: it was written immediately after the success of the Prisoner of Zenda, but it takes place in the 1730s, long before the events of Zenda and its sequel, Rupert of Gentsau. The stories deal with the love life of Princess Osra, the younger sister of Rudolph III, Rudolf V from the home of Elfberg, the common ancestor of Rudolf Rassendill, an English gentleman who acts as a prisoner of Zendy's political deception.
