Gender roles during the American Revolutionary War were not exactly a bastion of progressivism. However, even at a time when most women were encouraged to withdraw from the conflict and follow the example of any nearby man, there were a few iconoclastic women who broke this mold. The defiantly independent hero at the Secret Kids center resolutely refuses to avoid social conventions that he thinks are useless.
