The House of the Dead

"House of the Dead" is a fictional memoir of a man sentenced to ten years in prison for the murder of his wife. Dostoevsky heavily slandered his four-year prison sentence in a Siberian prison to draw attention to the inhumane, deadly consequences of the modern prison system and to refer to his philosophies about the best ways to treat and rehabilitate prisoners.
