The Lady in the Lake
by Raymond Chandler
Deras Kingsley's wife fled to Mexico, quickly divorced and married Casanova-vanabe, Chris Lavy. Or she insisted on this note she left to her husband. The problem is that when Philip Marlowe asks Laverie about this, he denies everything and sends a private investigator who packs a flea firmly lodged in his ear. But the next time Marlowe meets Lavy, he doesn't care about anything because of the two bullet holes in his heart. Now Marlowe is on the trail of the killer who took him from smoky Los Angeles to a muddy mountain lake.
