The Lion and the Unicorn
by Richard Harding Davis
A collection of early short stories, including "The Tramp", "On the Ship of Fever", "The Man with One Talent" and "The Last Trip Together", along with the title story. There were four rails on the sides of the ship, three of them were iron low, and one was at the top of the tree, and when he looked between them from the canvas cradle, he recognized them as the prison bars holding it. Outside his prison lay a dazzling blue water that ended with a yellow bank with a series of crushers and torn palms. Then a mountain range peaks rose again and a small block house stuck on the highest peak. He rested on the brow of the mountain against the bare sky as brazenly as a cracker box placed in the dome of a great cathedral.
