The Little Nugget

by P. G. Wodehouse

"Little Nugget" is one of the novels in which Waterhouse finds his feet, a slightly hilarious thriller set in an English preparatory school for noble and gentry children. Eleven-year-old Ogden Ford, the mouthful, overweight, chain-cigarette smoker son of an American millionaire, comes between them. Ogden (whom we meet again in Piccadilly Jim) is the object of the kidnapping attempt that forms the basis of the conspiracy. The comedy stems from The Waterhouse's favorite themes of Anglo-American misunderstanding and the absurdity of school life.
