The Long Goodbye
by Raymond Chandler
When Philip Marlowe befriends veteran Terry Lennox, he gets more out of his bargain. When Lennox's wife dies and Lennox himself is on the llama, Marlowe becomes a target for local police officers and a crazy gangster, while being confused with alcoholic writer Roger Wade and his wife Eileen. Nothing is as it seems, as Marlowe unravels Wades' plan to uncover the truth behind Lennox's façade. The Long Farewell, the most autobiographical of his novels, was considered by Chandler to be his best work. One of the outstanding examples of coolly brewed detective fiction adapted for radio, film and television, it won the 1955 Edgar Award for Best Novel.
