The Monster

The story is set in the small fictional town of Willomville in New York City. An African American carriage driver named Henry Johnson, who worked for the city's doctor, Dr. Trescott, was horribly injured after rescuing Trescott's son from a fire. When the city's inhabitants brand Henry as a monster, Trescott vows to house and care for him, causing his family to be expelled from the community.
