The Murder on the Links
by Agatha Christie
Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is summoned to France after receiving a disturbing letter screaming for urgent help. Upon arriving in Merlinville-sur-Mer, a researcher finds the man who wrote the letter, the South American millionaire Monsieur Renolde, stabbed to death, and his body is dumped in a newly dug open grave on a golf course adjacent to the apartment. Meanwhile, the millionaire's wife is found tied up and dazed in her room. Apparently, it appears that Renold and his wife are the victims of a failed theft that led to Renauld's kidnapping and death. The number of suspects is by no means small: his wife, whose dagger serves as a weapon, his angry son, who will kill for independence, and a mistress who refuses to ignore. Everyone felt worthy of a dead man's wealth. The police believe they have found the culprit. But Poirot has his doubts. Why did the dead man wear such a big coat for him? And who was the unbiased love letter in his jacket pocket for? Before Poirot answers these questions, the case is turned upside down by discovering a second body that was likewise killed.
