The Nebuly Coat
by J. Meade Falkner
Set in the mid-nineteenth century, The Nebuli Coats is the story of Edward Westray, a young architect sent to the remote town of Dorset Callern to oversee restoration work at the collapsed Cullern Minster. When he enters the lives of the townspeople, he hears rumors of a controversial claim to the title of Lord Bladamer, whose coat of arms in the grand transept window of Minster is the "coat of arms of the nebula" of the title. When the new Lord Blomamer, who has promised to pay all the costs of the restoration, arrives, Westray's suspicions increase. Drawn into fears and predictions of the imminent collapse of Minster's tower and shaken by the sudden violent death of organist Charnalle, Westray is further endangered when the mysteries behind his "sea green and silver" nebula jacket are solved.
